Today's Powerless Church
(June 2000; Modified  January 2004)

First, we look at the Hebrew word for power which is sarah (saw-raw) meaning to prevail as in power with God in Genesis 32:28. It is God who gives power and strength to His people (Psalm 68:35) to triumph over darkness. Power is authority that is given us, The Saints, by God. However, there is no power being demonstrated in The Church at this present time. Absolutely none! There is no real power of God in the present-day Church of Jesus Christ. You see no real miracles, signs nor wonders, and people are sitting in church buildings filled with all kinds of demon infestations. Yes, God’s always got a remnant, even now there is a remnant Church with the real POWER of God, but that which you see in the big crusades, on so-called Christian television, in camp meetings, and in the mega-churches, is not the real POWER of God! It’s counterfeit! It’s demonic!

The word power in Greek is exousia, which means privilege, control, authority, or the liberty or the right over Demon spirits. But for what reason? To do great exploits; and to have authority over the enemy, whose job it is to keep us from entering into the Kingdom of God, of course.

Behold, I give unto you power [authority] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you (Luke 10:19).

This power is for spiritual warfare – setting the captives free (Luke 4:18). A word of caution, we must not glory in the fact that the unclean spirits are subject to us, but rather glory, daily, over the fact that our names are in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Luke 10:20). What is it to "tread"? It is to trample down or to strike. This authority to tread on serpents is our striking or trampling down the enemy – not in our power or name, but that of God’s power in us, and in the name of Jesus. This is how the Kingdom of Heaven that suffereth violence (Matthew 11:12) is taken back from the enemy.

[God] Give us help from trouble; for vain is the help of man. Through God we shall do valiantly [be bold; be courageous); for He it is that shall tread down our enemies (Psalms 60:11-12).

The word power, whether in Hebrew or Greek, is the Church’s God-given authority over the powers of darkness,  by way of discernment of spirits, deliverance, miracles, signs, and wonders. That authority or POWER is for setting God’s people free in all areas of their lives so that they can love and serve God with their whole hearts, minds, souls, and strength.

In the Old Testament, it was God enduing His chosen servants such as Moses, Joshua, Elijah, and others, with His POWER since The Holy Spirit did not dwell in every individual. That meant that all the Hebrews did not have God’s POWER. Now, with God in us, by way of His Holy Spirit within us Saints, He empowers those of us who are truly Holy Ghost baptized to do the treading upon the enemy in the name of Jesus Christ. This, incidentally, puts the fear of light in Satan and His demons because they don’t like light/truth, for light/truth is of God and they love darkness/lies/evil.

Up to this point, it is most uncommon to find in The Church of Jesus Christ, someone with an authentic gift of healing. This is not to say that the gift of healing and all other gifts went out with the Apostles, for they did not. It is to say that church-going people do not have absolute faith in God because they don't live broken and holy lives before Him; they are not surrendered vessels who are totally obedient to The Lord. They hold fast to false doctrines rather than God’s Word. Even those holiness people with the claim of being holy have nothing spiritually powerful happening in their churches because of the many doctrines of man, false teachings, and bondage. (Note: This is not the same as the prayer of faith while laying on hands by the Saints whose prayers are in accordance to God’s will.) God’s POWER in us, His Church, is an act of absolute faith coupled with obedience which today’s Church does not have due to its apostate condition.

We have no power in ourselves, but it is God’s POWER that is in us, which is of course by grace. David’s song unto The Lord in II Samuel 22:33 is, "God is my strength and power: and He maketh my way perfect." Strength as Rock or defense. God, throughout His Word often describes Himself as The Rock, or our Defense. God, is our Rock, our strength and power. God’s POWER is our resource – our war machine while in this world, and He, God that is, is such, because we trust in Him and rely on Him – FAITH. God makes our way perfect – a life of undefilement, and this does not mean that we have nothing to do but keep going unchecked because "Jesus did it all." We have our part to do, after all, we are free moral agents who have to choose to do right by God, or choose to do wrong for Satan.

Saints, we cannot have the strength and POWER of God in us unless we have total and absolute faith unshakable in God. Total faith doesn’t just show up at the doorstep and there we suddenly have it. Getting to that place where we have total and absolute faith unshakable in God is us walking in obedience to all of His Word, resulting in our way of life being perfect. This perfection is in the spirit, mind you, not in the flesh. Keep in mind too, that faith is righteousness and righteousness is faith, and without faith it is impossible to please God. (All other than faith in God alone is sin.) Beloved, it is by faith in Him that we become righteous and pure, and by this, we have God’s POWER in us.

The POWER that God gives The Believer belongs to Him. "God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God" (Psalm 62:11). As obedient Saints, the POWER in us belongs to God. He gave it to us. "the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto His people. Blessed be God" (Psalm 68:35). We, Saints, are His people, and only those professing Saints with true faith and Holy Ghost baptized are "endued with power from on high" (Luke 24:49). Holy Ghost Power – The Spirit of God in us and on us, His True Saints. Again, God is of great POWER, and it is He who gives us that truly great POWER.

The Lord Jesus Christ gave the Apostles power when He was here with them, and when He left, He gave all of the Believers that same power through His Holy Ghost.

And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease (Matthew 10:1).

This is the miraculous POWER of God. Mark 9:1 tells us that the Kingdom of God comes with POWER. Just what is the Kingdom of God, though? The Kingdom of God is our trusting in God, which is to bring us peace and joy by blessing us with healing and deliverance from the powers of darkness – all through the sweet Holy Ghost. The Kingdom of God, summed up, is SPIRITUAL PROSPERITY. By us steadfastly obeying God, we will prosper wherever we are. Oh, no, this is not about dollars, cars, and mansions, but SPIRITUAL PROSPERITY – righteousness and holiness with POWER. Never forget that righteousness is pure faith and faith comes by being holy, that is, pleasing to God through obedience to all of His Word or walking in God’s Word. To be blessed with God’s POWER, we have got to have faith and more faith in Jesus’ mighty name.

God gave POWER to Moses and also to Joshua who followed after Moses. Both men could not have maintained the POWER of God in their lives if they had not walked upright before The Lord. The POWER comes with holiness and righteousness. The POWER comes with complete trust in The Lord for absolutely everything – FAITH. There are prerequisites for getting God’s POWER. The Lord gave Joshua a work to do, and as He spoke to him, He listed the prerequisites for accomplishing the work.

be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law [God’s Word], which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest (Joshua 1:7-9).

The Hebrew word for strong is chazaq and it means to take hold of or be determined. The Hebrew word for courageous is amats, and it means to be obstinate or inflexible. In other words, The Lord is saying, be strong and very courageous or be determined to hold fast to His Word without any substitution, and be inflexible when it comes to obeying His Word, for He is His Word.

As The Lord told Joshua, He is telling His True Church today, for spiritual prosperity wheresoever we may go,

1. we have got to have the POWER for discernment during this period of great deception;
2. we have got to have the POWER that He gives in order to be victorious over the enemy during the present dark times and the even darker times just ahead; and
3. we have got to have the POWER that He gives to make it into The Kingdom that is promised to those of us who truly believe.

Church, the POWER of God is not just for a few of us, but it is for all Mark 16 True Believers. We must be hardened to obeying His Word because He is His Word, and we cannot turn from Him – no, not to the left nor to the right. It is obedience to God or nothing.

Today’s powerless Church is too eager to receive a miracle, sign or a wonder as being from God. Yes, a miraculous showing is the sign of a spirit working, but which spirit – The Holy Spirit or the unholy spirit?

God does not make His people look like the "village idiot." Whatever teaching, sign, or wonder that appears in The Church, measure it next to The Word of God. Question it! Oh, but you can’t do that if you are not studying The Word of God. Meditate upon The Word of God – consider what God has to say as you read His Word, and bury it in your heart/spirit. This is how we become strong and very courageous and possess spiritual success. This is how we are able to discern that which is not of God.

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them (Isaiah 8:20).

The one way that we can tell that God’s light is not in someone’s preaching or teaching, is by us bringing to remembrance God’s Word that we have been reading daily. That’s why it is mandatory that we read our Bibles every single day of our lives. That’s God speaking to us.

Looking at false signs and wonders in today’s Church due to a powerless Church with no discernment, there is the astonishing appearance of gold dust (glory dust called by some), feathers, diamonds, and gold teeth. In many of the false revivals, not only is gold dust falling, but feathers, and even diamonds as I heard one evangelist report. These churchgoers are convinced that these happenings are from God. A church-going doctor prayed that he might receive a feather, and sure enough, the next day, while driving his car with the windows down, he looked down and saw a feather dancing on his knee. Demons, are indeed very accommodating. Incidentally, the gold dust was tested by several sources and found to have no traces of gold, but was plastic film – fake. Does God give anything imitation? False? I don’t think so! Imitations are from Satan and his demons. Cognizant of this, you still hold on to this as simply being evidence of God’s presence, and that is what matters. 

Saints, it is a trick of the enemy, and God is nowhere in that dust, those feathers, the diamonds, nor the teeth. Speaking of the gold fillings in teeth, this is accepted as God’s supernatural sign of His presence, a tool to win souls and to heal and deliver the sick and oppressed. Saints, why would God put fake gold fillings in the midst of beautiful enamel that He created? Go figure! That’s not God, Saints. It is Satan and his demons tricking you because they know you are powerless, and with no knowledge of God’s truths down in you – no holiness, no righteousness, no discernment because God is not there with you. Church, you’ve got it backwards. You are confused! These miraculous signs and wonders are distinctly not a show of God’s POWER to His people.

 There is POWER and then there is power. God’s POWER is not fake and idiotic, but Satan’s is. You have been witnessing Satan’s power in so-called miracles, signs, and wonders. Toronto, Canada and Pensacola, Florida where false revival broke-out, has had pastors from all over the world visiting both places to have the so-called outpouring imparted unto them that they might take it back to their churches to keep the fire burning. This outpouring is demonic in nature and is so because God’s Holy Spirit would never ever demonstrate His manifested presence in the human body in a zombie-like trance. He would never manifest in steady trembling from top to bottom whereby speech is somewhat impaired; jerking and rippling in snake-like movements; laughing uncontrollably; and steady jerking motions.

An offshoot of Toronto/Brownsville was televised live one Friday night. I saw this one man, supposedly touched by God – an African-American, man passed out on the floor, mumbling something inaudible, with his eyes open but rolled back in his head. When he was helped up to his feet, he was at a loss for words and was behaving like the 1930s Hollywood portrayal of blacks - scratching his head in bewilderment, eyes spaced out, looking as though he had a nickel’s worth of sense, in other words, looking like an idiot. That was not God. As if that wasn’t enough, the man passed out onto the floor once again and began rolling over continuously as if to put out flames on his body. He rolled across the floor for some length, uncontrollably, rolling on top of another person, after which he began to reverse the rolling. The congregants were all laughing out of control at this demonic performance called "God’s Spirit in operation in these last days." This was not God! God has a sense of humor but it’s not bizarre or sick humor, and nor does He humiliate His holy people in that fashion. Oh, well, these people deserve this deception. Had they not drawn unto the preachers and the ministries but instead having earlier drawn unto God in a state of brokenness, obedience, and with a sincere heart, they would have had discernment of spirits, and the POWER to rebuke those manifesting demons. They would have then steered clear of those so-called revivals. That was representative of "power" – not POWER. Apostasy.

Today’s Church is powerless due to sin which is why she can so readily receive the lies from Satan and His religious demons. This would not be happening to The Church if she were courageous and very strong when it comes to God’s Word as God directed Joshua. This false demonstration of God’s POWER in The Church is easily accepted because the "religious" leaders don’t promote righteousness, holiness and faith in God and The Blood of Jesus. Jesus is The Word of God and His precious Blood is POWER. Some religious leaders may speak about living morally right and getting closer to God, but Saints, that’s only to bait you into the trap of keeping you far apart from God. These leaders are Satan’s tools for tearing down The Church of Jesus Christ. These religious leaders will do that to you because they have not God’s Holy Spirit in them, but a counterfeit spirit. You, Saints, don’t know that they have a counterfeit spirit in them because you are not in the prayer closet, not in God’s Word, and not walking in His Word, since you haven’t completely cast aside the world. You are caught! You are entangled in the web of a powerless Church that is without the Real God – without the Real Jesus – POWERLESS.

Is God’s Spirit really in those healing services where lots of bizarre movements are going on that are suppose to be God’s hand moving – the POWER of God? Satan is very clever, you know. Why should the real God show up in those services when the ministers themselves are not believing God for personal healing, even if unto death. These ministers, including the late Kathryn Kulman looked to the arms of man for healing. Do you call that faith? Where there is no faith, there is no POWER. These very same ministers will shout, "God healed me." God heals through doctors, too." Yes, God does heal through doctors too, but for those of you who have no faith in Him. The tragic part about the ministers of healing is, they make public statements about how they went to the doctor and/or took a ton of vitamins, and then shout how God healed them. They look to the arms of man as though God needs assistance. It is tragic! They are not imparting encouraging words and examples to The Church to rest in The Lord. Since those ministers claim to have faith in God for healing, and minister healing in the name of Jesus, why not believe Him all the way for healing, even at the risk of giving up the ghost. What should you care? You'll be with The Lord, hopefully. If they have all this power with God and their lives are so upright before The Lord, what should they care if they give up the ghost. They care because they have got a good life (according to the world) with all of their material gains, homes in gated communities, body guards, jet planes, Bentleys and Benzes, worldly recognition, and power (not POWER). Shame before The Lord on them and you too!

Another powerless tragic act in the ministry of healing, which is suppose to be the POWER of God, is when it’s believed God has healed someone, the person is instructed to go back to their doctor for a check-up. If the POWER of God did in fact heal that person, why must God's work have a stamp of approval on it by a man? It all stops with God. God does not have to prove anything to anybody, and neither does His true POWER-endued ministers. This is irreverence. This is apostasy. This is the powerless Church.

No, the healing ministries of today are not coming in the real POWER of God. These ministers of healing are mediums with the gift of healing and deliverance through the influence and workings of demonic beings. Their work is "spirit healing."  Spirit healing can be confused with divine healing from God Almighty. Spirit healing, however, might provide alleviation of the symptoms, but another malady – mental or physical, will take its place. Those devils are not going to let the people go unless the minister bears God’s POWER whereby they must go and the miraculous does indeed take place. Divine healing, will alleviate the ailment immediately, or in some cases, it may be gradual, and why, you must take that up with God. Whichever the case in divine healing, the person will not receive another malady in its place, and will have a steady stream of peace with the lasting healing. Also, the symptoms do not return, except from time-to-time, the enemy may try to trick one into believing that he wasn’t really healed by God, or that the sickness has return. In that case, though, the person simply rebukes the devil and let him know in no uncertain terms that God did heal him.

The truth about the large healing ministries of today is that the ministers are mediums for demons, even though they say that it’s of God. Those ministers have the help of their little demon friends that come across as "Angels of Light" – their healing guides. It is through these little helpers that so-called healing changes take place. Since sickness and disease are a curse, and the source is demonic, it’s very easy for those demons to alleviate an ailment. However, you can bet there will be another malady in that person’s life immediately working (e.g., rage, alcohol, another ailment, etc.). The well-known faith healer, William Branham attested to that when he said that throughout his life an angel guided him. Mind you, Angel – not The Holy Spirit. Saints, The Holy Spirit is the real POWER of God, not an angel’s presence. Branham, speaking to his interpreter, a German-American, Born Again Christian minister said,

        Branham said to him one evening just before a meeting, ‘Don’t stand to the right of me because my angel stands there.’ The interpreter asked him quite innocently, ‘What does your angel look like?’ Branham went on to describe a well-built man with dark hair who stood with folded arms next to him. He had to obey whatever the angel said to him.
        On occasions Branham would arrive late at a meeting. When the interpreter encouraged him to try and arrive earlier, Branham replied, ‘I can only do what my angel tells me to do. He’s with me day and night and if I don’t do what he says, I have no authority in my preaching. I can’t even decide things in my own private life, and can only go out or see people if the angel allows me to.' 
        The interpreter went on to tell me that Branham would sometimes fall into a trance when he spoke and that later when he had finished preaching, he would be completely exhausted…       
        At the end of his meetings when people came to the front to seek healing, the angel had always told him who to lay hands on and who to send away. In fact Branham was merely a slave of his angel.
        Once the interpreter asked him, ‘Do you think your power to heal people comes from the Holy Spirit?’ ‘No,’ Branham replied, ‘my angel does it.’  (Occult Bondage And Deliverance. Koch, Kurt E. Kregel Publications. Grand Rapids, MI, 1970, pp 49-50.)

Saints, that is a good example of spiritism, not the POWER of Almighty God.

Saints, put two-and-two together! I don’t care how many tongues they speak in (most of theirs are false anyway), how many people flock to them for healing, anytime those preachers/faith-healers teach things that don’t line up with the Word of God, that is confirmation that they are not of God. If not of God, then they are coming with a counterfeit spirit that is without the POWER of God. Branham did a lot of preaching of off-the-wall, unscriptural things, and so does the most popular man of today’s healing ministries. By the way, this gentleman, Benny Hinn, was prophesied to that Jesus Christ will appear, bodily, at his crusades, and he apparently believes it because he is saying so himself with such joy in his voice. You know them by their fruit!

Church, William Branham did not have the real POWER of God. William Branham was a medium for demons – Angels of Light, and to think, his so-called anointing was passed on to others, right on up to this day. That’s scary! I might add here how Benny Hinn, today’s leading healing minister, has gone into a trance-like state with a change of personality, change of voice, and threatened/cursed anyone who would dare speak against his ministry. I heard with my own two ears and saw it with my own two eyes, and as sure as I write this, that was a demon speaking. (I know demonic activity from my experience in deliverance.) That power demonstrated is not God’s real POWER, but that of demons.

Saints, God has to be our habitation in order for His POWER to operate in our lives for the Kingdom. God our habitation is God making His abode in us, or us allowing God to dwell in us.

If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him (John 14:23).

To keep God’s Words means we have got to (1) daily, study ALL of God’s Words; (2) unceasingly, believe ALL of God’s Words; and (3) everlastingly, walk in ALL of God’s Words. God The Father and The Son’s promise to make Their abode in us simply means Them taking up residence in us as The Holy Spirit. This, of course, requires our complete surrender, absolute faith/trust, and total obedience to Them which amounts to holiness and righteousness in each of us. This requires Holy Ghost baptism – enduing with POWER from on high – from God. This is how the POWER of God is activated in our lives hence enabling us to exercise authority over the enemy thus setting us free from all that hinders us from loving and serving God with our whole being. This POWER of God blesses us with discernment of spirits so that we can readily discern God’s POWER from Satan’s power so that we are not deceived. When we allow ourselves to be deceived, there is a heavy price to be paid, one being a transference of those demon spirits over to us every time we attend those powerless crusades, conferences, seminars, and churches. Once they have attached themselves, inch-by-inch they bury themselves into our lives with further deception to which there is no end.  Deception snowballs. Before we know it we have become reprobate and no reprobates will rule and reign with Christ Jesus. Get the real POWER!

There is a great deal more that could be said about today’s powerless church, but I will stop here, leaving you with some precious gems to keep tucked away in your heart.

Many will say to me [Jesus] in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works (Matthew 7:22)?

and The Lord, The Judge, goes on to say,

I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity (Matthew 7:23).

Iniquity – wicked acts – perversity – unrighteousness. The Lord did not say "commit iniquity" or "do iniquity," but He said, "work iniquity" - or minister about perverse gifts of another power was what He meant. Saints, that power is that which is demonstrated in the current apostate church age. Yes, they may start their crusades, conferences, revivals, etc. with "I praise You Lord" and "I give God the glory," but be forewarned, it’s their fruits that are the telltale.

Ye shall know them by their fruits…. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit (Matthew 7:16-18).

Yes, Church, their fruits tell it all. Let’s look at a few telltales:

1. If The Holy Spirit is the focal point (in prayer, praise, and requests), know that God is not behind the demonstrated power in the signs, wonders, and miracles. Remember, The Holy Spirit can do nothing on His own; only what He is told to do (John 16:13).
   
2. If revelatory messages are given that do not line up with God’s Word, know that its source is not God, but Satan. Some examples follow:

 

Minister	Weird Revelations
Benny Hinn	God intended for women to have babies out of their sides. Sees Jesus all the time, and the garments He wears; and he knows when he is pleased and displeased with him. Asked Jesus to show him his future, which was done; and he asked Jesus how long he would live, and of course he got an answer (69). He gets the anointing from the bones of Kathryn Kuhlman and Aimee Semple McPherson when he visits their gravesites.
Oral Roberts	God was going to take him out of this world if he didn’t raise a certain amount of money for the continuation of the medical school at the Oral Roberts University. (Got the money, but the school went by the way. Was that God? I don’t think so!) God had him build a 20-story research tower because God was giving him a plan to deal with cancer. (Why would our healing God need cancer research? Where is the research center now? Is cancer still around? Was that God? I don’t think so!)
William Branham	Eve had sex with Satan, who was Cain’s father. The Trinity is demonic. Women are responsible for the evil in the world.

It must be pointed out here that the men of faith in The Bible did not come up with off-the-wall trash as is done by today’s so-called men of God with power. The difference being POWER and not power – God’s POWER and not the deceptive power of Satan. Saints, off-the-wall trash is not indicative of good fruits, and is not to be taken lightly by accepting it as "just mistakes." There is entirely too much of those kinds of "powerless-church-trash-revelations," particularly among the recognized large ministries.

Church, don’t shoot the messenger. Being a "watchman on the wall" is not judging, but simply putting The Church on notice of what to steer clear of. Stop patronizing (your presence and your money) those powerless crusades, camp meetings, tent meetings, churches, and ministries.  As has been said to you before, "birds of a feather, flock together." All of, and I do mean ALL of the powerless mega-ministries have "soul ties." They scratch each other’s backs. They walk the same walk – preach the same trash with a little Jesus sprinkled in. In The Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, come out of those hell-bound-powerless-mega churches and ministries. The POWER of God is nowhere to be found in them. I will once again quote Isaiah 8:20,

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
